THE VILLA

Located at the gates of Siena (in the northern area), about 2 km from the Camollia gate, this 17th-century villa, once an outpost of Siena, offers a perfect combination of history, elegance and charm. It stands out for the versatility of its outdoor spaces and the variety of its rooms. In addition to this, its strategic location, just a 20-minute walk from the centre of Siena, and ample private parking make it ideal for organising weddings, parties, receptions, photo shoots and events. The villa consists of a large C-shaped nucleus with literal wings and an adjacent building built in neo-Gothic style with a 14th-century tower. Inside is a splendid Italian-style garden on two levels, with fountains and a spectacular theatre of holm oaks designed by Arch. Fantastici and adjoining greenhouses. A small chapel is also part of the complex. The villa has three floors, while the side wings have two floors. The tower has three levels. The facades are all plastered. The roofs are pitched in tiles and pantiles. The floors are in Venetian seminato and the lounges are decorated with period stuccoes. The entire property complex (including the gardens) is listed under the former Law 1089/39, Legislative Decree 42/2004 (monumental restriction). Torre Fiorentina Villa is a member of the Associazione Dimore Storiche Italiane (A.D.S.I.), which brings together the owners of private historic properties throughout Italy.

THE HISTORY

An ancient 17th-century villa, once an outpost of Siena beyond the Camollia Gate, has always belonged to the Sergardi Biringucci family. Damaged by an earthquake in 1798, it was remodelled to a design by the Sienese architect Agostino Fantastici.

Pope Pius VI (Braschi) stayed in the Villa Torre Fiorentina when he was forced to leave Rome following the revolutionary uprisings in 1798, and Richard Wagner in 1880 while he was working on the orchestration of Parsifal.

Dario Nicodemi wrote the play ‘L’alba, il giorno e la notte’ (Dawn, Day and Night) for this atmospheric open-air theatre, which had its national premiere there in 1920.
